Our Vision
Much like today, the people of England in the 9th century were slowly but surely losing their faith in God and the Kingdom was suffering as a consequence. The ruler at the time, King Alfred, knew there had to be a spiritual revival if his kingdom was to survive. To bring about such a revival, he made a 'Classical Education' available to as many of his subjects as he possibly could. His people became literate and Alfred had the writings of the early church fathers translated into English and even began translating the Bible himself! His plan worked and through his educational reforms there was a revival in the spiritual and cultural life of the nation, earning him the title of Alfred the Great.
The founders of The King Alfred school would like to see a revival of classical learning in the 21st century. We offer a rigorous, time-honoured education that teaches children to cherish this country's wonderful Christian heritage in a way that helps them grow up to become wise and virtuous people.
We are an Ofsted registered school that opened in September 2021, in the short time we have been open we have grown from 9 children to 33 currently on role. We have recently been granted an age range extension and are now registered to cater for children aged 3-13.
We are looking to expand the school to cater for secondary age students, to enable us to do this we need to move from our current rented site which can only cater for 47 children. Our plan is to move to a location of our own that can provide an education for 200 + children. A site of our own also gives us the potential to continue in our Charities aims to help others start schools in a similar vein.
