INFORMATION for PARENTS
School Day & Timings
The King Alfred School takes seriously the welfare and health and safety of its pupils. And so we have devised a procedure so parents are clear on processes to ensure a safe handover of children. This policy details the procedure for both Nursery and school age pupils. Please also read our Attendance Policy.
School Day Timings
The school day starts promptly at 9:00 a.m and finishes at 3:00 p.m.
Parents can drop off pupils from 8:45 a.m.
Nursery operates four mornings a week. There is no Nursery on a Friday. Nursery finishes at 12:00 p.m. on half days and 3:00 p.m. on full days. Pupils enrolled at Nursery must attend all four mornings. We currently offer afternoons on a Tuesday and Thursday but spaces are limited so please enquire with the school office for availability.
Breakfast Club Timings
Breakfast club runs five mornings a week and is open to all pupils who attend our setting. Breakfast club is open from 8:00 a.m. The Breakfast Club form and payment must be returned to the office the week before parents wish for their child to attend.
After School Club Timings
After school clubs run 3:00-4:00 p.m. on select days in the week. Please refer to each half term's club letters for the days on which they run. Club letters go out at the end of each half term. Copies of these can be requested from the school office. The Parent Portal also includes the selection of clubs and dates available each half term. Children will leave after school clubs via the main reception door once we safely hand them over to parents. Please note that all additional clubs are to be agreed and paid for before the start of the half term. It is important clubs are agreed in advance to ensure there are correct staffing levels. Please be considerate that some clubs will have a maximum to abide by correct staff-to-student ratio requirements.
Pick Up and Handover Procedure
Parents may park their car on our school car park or on the road for drop off and pick up. We have 20 car parking spaces and as a growing school we cannot guarantee you will have a space. If there are no spaces available, we politely request that cars are parked on the street. Parents are to take full responsibility for their children on the car park. Please ensure your child does not run onto the road from the car park. During pick up and drop off there will be a member of staff positioned at the student gate. Parents are to accompany their child to the gate. The staff member who is at the gate will welcome the student by saying, "Good morning," and by shaking their hand and allowing them onto the playground. This welcome and handshake is not only a polite way to interact but also demonstrates a clear handover of care. We will repeat this process at the end of the day and staff members will wait until a parent or authorised person is at the gate before safely handing over.
Please note: Pick up and drop off times also give class teachers chance to feedback to parents/guardians on the student’s day. We may discuss positive achievements and notify of any notices or concerns we may have. It is also a great time for parents to pass on any messages they may have to class teachers.

School Uniform Policy
The King Alfred School is committed to high standards and that extends to dress. We believe a smart uniform will give our young people pride in their school, and dressing the same means there is no hierarchy of dress.
Our exclusive school supplier is Abbiss in Wombourne High Street. Most of the items you need are stocked at Abbiss as we have tried to make it as easy as possible for parents to get uniform as a one-stop-shop. We recommend you order uniform well in advance to avoid disappointment. We have been very impressed with Abbiss and their customer service. Their friendly team will assist you with any questions you may have and they have changing room facilities available.
All items of clothing must be labelled clearly with your child’s full name. This makes it much easier for children to find their item of clothing if they have removed it and helps in returning any stray items found to its owner.
